Dr. Richard Laherty

Richard William Laherty | Neurosurgeon| Princess Alexandra Hospital

Since 2010, Dr. Richard Laherty has served as the deputy director at Princess Alexandra Hospital. Spinal surgery has been the central focus on his entire career and he enjoys provided medical services that aid people in this respect. After he graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, Dr. Laherty completed postgraduate fellowship training at Princess Alexandra Hospital., St. Vincent’s and Concord Repatriation Hospital.  Active in research, Dr. Laherty contributed as a clinical research fellow for the Queensland Cancer Fund between 2003 and 2006. In 2014, he was recognized by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons with a commendation for teaching. The factors that Dr. Laherty feel have played a role in his success have been enjoying and embracing challenges and applying hard work and determination into everything he sets out to do.

In addition to his position as a deputy director, he is also a neurosurgeon consultant and senior lecturer as he enjoys training young neurosurgeons in the latest technologies. He maintains affiliation with the Society of Lateral Access Surgery, the North American Spine Society, the Australian Medical Society, the Australasian Trauma Society, the Spine Society Australasia, Neurosurgeons Society of Australasia, the Therapeutic Goods and Administration and the Workers Compensation Tribunal.
